PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION FOR ME AND REBLOG!
I NEED IT IN ORDER TO WRITE THIS DUMBASS PAPER. THANK YOU!

How do you define “emo?”

(whether you see it as music based or whatever, just answer it according to what you think it is, positive or negative.)

I actually read the book, Nothing Feels Good: Punk Rock, Teenagers, and Emo when I was in high school. Emo is short for emotive hardcore.  It’s a genre of more personally expressive post hardcore rock music that developed in the mid 1980’s with a band called Rites of Spring from DC.  The genre entered the 90’s with bands like Sunny Day Real Estate (so bummed I missed the reunion show) and Jawbreaker.  Emo then modernized and became main-stream thanks to the expressive sounds of Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard.

and that kids, is the story of emo. NOT emotional.

another person thinks I look like Jules from Superbad…

Hands down

this is the best day I can ever remember…

I can’t even believe tonight actually happened.  I went up to Baltimore and met up with one of my favorite photographers, Mandi.  We went to the Sound Garden to catch an in-store Dashboard Confessional performance.  We got there at the end, but found ourselves in the meet and greet line.

We made a strong attempt not to make fools of ourselves… I think we succeeded. We each got a picture with the guys and they signed my pass holder for the night.

Then we headed to the Ottobar, where I ended up being guest listed (score) so Jocelyn was able to come to the show.  Some how I ended up front and center.  I had asked this girl if I could just sneak past her for 3 songs, and she was really cool about it (thanks).

When I went to remind her that I’d only be in front of her for 3 songs, she said I could stay because I was short— I know owe this girl a print or something.  So pretty much I ended up being front and center for the entire show… oh and with my photopass, I got to shoot the entire time; I’ve never been so excited to upload photos!

NFG had a great acoustic set.  Their unplugged songs took me back my acoustic kick in high school.  After an eternity of a changeover, the huge monitor in front of me was removed, and the mic stand was place just to my right and taped in place.  I nearly passed out when I realized I was in prime shooting locale. (Thanks Mandi for watching my back!)

Chris opened the show asking if anyone had gone to the in-store session and decided to tell a story about how people were not singing, but were slowly creeping toward the stage and taking pictures as he was playing.  He decided to use ME as his example.  Me being him, and him being the fans that would slowly approaching and snap a cellphone picture.  It was hilarious, I don’t know how I didn’t pass out.

The set was everything I thought it would be and more and at the end of the night I walked away with a guitar pick.

I don’t think I could have asked for a better night.

Life complete.
